Koos is a nice, sociable and reliable host! It is a beautiful accommodation in a fantastic area. Koos rents out a good car with which you can discover the very friendly and hospitable Suriname in complete freedom.

Frans and I were guests at Villa Nieuw Amsterdam on March 18 to April 9, our 1st time in Suriname.

We arrived at Zanderij at half past 8 in the evening local time. There we were welcomed by Tega, a sociable, large, spontaneous Creole Surinamese. Who brought us to Nieuw Amsterdam, to our house where we had our stay for the next 3 weeks.

We arrived around half past 10, where Koos was waiting for us with a juice and a glass of wine. After a short tour and some explanation, we first went to sleep. Tired of a long journey.

The next morning Koos came with a loud knock to ask how we had spent the night.

Koos is a fun, spontaneous, creative (including local art) personality, who could have a nice chat, which we did every morning after KLOP... KNOCK... A cup of coffee, as very cozy.
We went through our day with Koos, as our source of information.

Every day we asked ourselves what the wooden artwork in the living room was supposed to represent???

We found that out after 2 weeks when we went inland for 3 days to Knini Paati, to Nelson and his team, who pampered us with delicious food and fun excursions. We had booked this trip with Koos, which we experienced as fantastic and also recommend to everyone as icing on the cake.

We have also made several other trips including Mariënburg, Frederiksdorp, Nickerie (West) where we spent 2 days with the locals, and a few times to Paramaribo, including by bus, boat and taxi.

But we also spent a day with Tega, who introduced us to his world.
What impressions we have gained. Again Tega, thank you very much for this great day.

Spent the days "at home" in between, enjoying the peace and quiet and the swimming pool.

In the last week we also went out with Koos, where we saw some nice things and had a delicious meal.

Koos, you are a great host with whom we also had a lot of fun, because your laugh was very contagious. Once again, thank you very much, for your hospitality and your down-to-earth side, how to deal with the locals, which by the way is also heartwarming.

We have had 3 fantastic weeks, and recommend this location to everyone, because then you are guaranteed to have a wonderful, carefree time.

Oh Koos, how well you do here! The fantastic, large and clean swimming pool of course, but also that very spacious ground floor (the guest house): for 1 person of course a Valhalla, but also very doable for two or three adults....

The fantastic, large and clean swimming pool of course, but also that very spacious ground floor (the guest house): for 1 person of course a Valhalla, but also very doable for two or three adults. And then the rest: the palm garden, the location of the whole.... This part of Commewijne is not called Lust & Rust for nothing! More than enough has been said about Koos' service in all reviews, so I'll keep it to just 1 word: sublime! In all respects, this resort is worth 5 stars, or 10 points, as far as I'm concerned. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay at villa nieuw amsterdam. You do need a car to go to Paramaribo and the plantations. Friendly and attentive landlord.

Koos and his apartment were our Suriname highlight.

What do you do if you have limited mobility and still want to make a trip to Suriname, where you see as much of the country and its people as possible? This house was definitely a golden choice for us. We enjoyed it for 2 weeks...

What do you do if you have limited mobility and still want to make a trip to Suriname, where you see as much of the country and its people as possible? This house was definitely a golden choice for us. We enjoyed it for 2 weeks.
Upon entering you enter a bright spacious living room that has just been beautifully renovated with high sliding windows. The view from the living room is fantastic on the opposite forest with monkeys in the trees at sunset. The terrace is huge and covered so you can always sit there.
The kitchen next to the living room is equipped with kitchen utensils and appliances so we were able to cook delicious food and even bake cake and bread.
The air conditioning of the master bedroom and the bedroom next to the bathroom were a godsend for the warm nights.
Koos, the upstairs owner of the house, was always ready when we had a question and he made sure that the pool was super clean every day. We certainly didn't regret renting his Toyota RAV. It is a large car (with automatic transmission and cruise control) that makes you feel safe even in the hectic traffic of Paramaribo. In addition, the car gave us the freedom to see a lot of the Surinamese coastal area. Koos tries to organize everything optimally for his guests. And as far as we're concerned, we totally succeeded.
Then something about the location: Nieuw Amsterdam is about half an hour's drive from Paramaribo on the other side of the Suriname River. We liked that because Commewijne is a particularly beautiful and relaxing area with plenty of lively villages. It was also nice that we could do a number of trips from here with Wendell Brons from Budget Tours such as a plantation / dolphin and a swamp tour.
