We have enjoyed living in South Africa as a family for 18 years now. And, if it's up to us, we'll never leave. This has truly become our home for us. The friendly people, the beautiful nature, the wide surroundings, the wonderful weather. Lots of sun even in winter. Gray days are sporadic. That makes you happy. For us it is still a joy to go to a winery (wine estate) and enjoy the surroundings and the wines there. Eating out here is of very good quality and very affordable. People often ask about security/crime. In the Western Cape, the province in which we live and of which Cape Town is a part, it is certainly, in our opinion, no more unsafe than the Netherlands. After 18 years I still have my Dutch bike! Fortunately it is still in my possession. And yes I do ride it. With Hema bicycle bags. Don't miss the Hema smoked sausage. But hey, you can't have everything.
