A spacious and very comfortable house in a quiet village, tranquility, nice people, beautiful nature, hiking trails, many nice eateries, delicious wines, beautiful towns, beautiful Budapest and of course Lake Balaton.
Behind the house is a spacious shed with garden furniture and between house and barn is a spacious and light roof.

The garden is sheltered on all sides, with several places to sit in and out of the sun or the wind. There is a swimming pool for children. The terrain continues for about two hundred meters to the rear. 

POSSIBILITIES IN THE AREA
There is a small shop in the village. The opening hours are posted on the door. For larger groceries, you can go to Veszprem. In the city itself there are many shops and markets. On the ring road (north-east) there are also a Tesco, Spar, Aldi, Lidl and a UBI and many other large stores.
From Hidegkut you can drive to Lake Balaton, but you can also stay in this quiet area and enjoy hiking.
A bike tour around Lake Balaton is also recommended!
At the lake you can swim in many places. There is often about 2 euros entrance fee, but then you will also find neat toilets and showers.
There are also restaurants everywhere, where you can go very reasonably for little money.
Budapest is, of course, a beautiful city to visit. You can go from Veszprem by train or by motorway – don't forget to check if your vignette is valid.
Horseback riding can be done in many places. The Tihany peninsula is beautiful for a visit, although very touristy. Scattered throughout the country there are several places with thermal baths.

THE VILLAGE ITSELF
Hidegkut is located on the northeastern tip of Lake Balaton in a quiet valley. The stream flows through the hills and forests to Lake Balaton.

Hidegkut has about 450 inhabitants. That is less than before, but in recent years it has been growing again. Many young people with children come to live there.
Relatively speaking, there are still a lot of older people living there, many of them of German descent. This is often the case in Northwest Hungary. Hidegkut – it means cold spring or cold well – is one of the approximately 300 villages populated by the Habsburg emperors in the 18th century with Catholic Swabian Deutschen, as the country had become very empty after Turkish rule. As a result, the main street also has a characteristic structure as you find in many of those villages: separate houses next to each other with a strip of land behind them. They used the lands around the village together, and at home they had cattle and vegetable gardens until the sixties. Everyone had a few cows, one or two horses, pigs, chickens and goats. You can still see that in the construction of the yard. Now there is not a single farmer in the village.

There is a service in the church every Sunday.

In the Hosszu Utca there is a point of sale of goat cheese.

The nearest gas station is in Nemesvamos, on the road from Veszprem to Hidegkut (so you will pass by often).

GETTING THERE
You can fly to Budapest, Vienna, Bratislave, Graz or Balaton (Keszthely, on the west side of the lake), but we usually drive there.
The journey there from our home in North Groningen is about 1300 kilometers by car. You can easily take several days to do this, along various beautiful routes in central Europe. In the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, you have to buy a vignette for the motorways via the internet. You will be registered electronically after payment.
We usually drive over Oldenburg, Bremen, Hannover, Magdeburg, Leipzig, Dresden, Prague, Brno, Bratislava, Györ, Zirc, Veszprem in one day. In 2024 we also got the tip to drive from Györ to Veszprem over Papa. In any case, you will then get on the ring road. Here you go around the city and take the exit in the direction of Tapolca. On this quiet road you will see, after about 10 km a sign to Hidegkut, turn left. Then after the exit you will see the village after a few minutes.
