A holiday home in Sint Willibrordus

The picturesque Sint Willibrordus is one of the most beautiful villages on Curaçao. The stunning Roman Catholic Sint Willibrordus church stands out from afar. Thanks to the central location, a holiday home in Sint Willibrordus is a perfect base to explore the area. It has not yet been discovered by real mass tourism, so you can still enjoy peace and space on Curaçao. And the most beautiful beaches and sights are practically around the corner: less than 15 minutes down the road, the palm trees rustle along the white sand of Cas Abou, Playa Daaibooi and Playa Porto Marie. Here you will find lovely places for swimming, diving and snorkelling. Due to the clear, shallow water, the beaches are also very suitable for a holiday with children.

Sights from Sint Willibrordus

Not far from Sint Willibrordus you will find the characteristic salt pans of Curaçao. These are no longer used as such, but the remains are well worth a visit. One of the most famous are the salt pans of Rif St. Marie, one of the oldest plantations on the island. Even more famous are the salt pans of Jan Kok, where flamingos can be seen regularly. These pink birds come all the way from the neighbouring island of Bonaire to Curaçao in search of food. You must also pay a visit to the old country home of Jan Kok, that is now being used as the studio of a well-known local artist. With a rental car, you can also easily go to the famous Christopher Park. Here you can go for beautiful walks and spot special animals, like the rare biná - a white-tailed deer that only exists on Curaçao.

Rent cheaply through Micazu

Interesting things to know about Sint Willibrordus

  • Sint Willibrordus is also called San Willibrordo. The village got its name in 1888 when the church of the same name was inaugurated. Until then, the place was called Buitenbosch, or Mondi Afó in Papiamento.
  • The Sint Willibrordus church was designed by an architect from Rotterdam: Evert Margry.
  • Not far from Sint Willibrordus you will find a rock formation called El Indjan (the Indian). Due to its shape of a reclining Indian, it would have had a special meaning for the slaves who used to work on the plantations in Curaçao.
