There once was a time when Silves was the capital of the great Andalusia, conquered by the Moors where they ruled for centuries. Traces of Islamic architecture can still be found here in the city, once called Xelb, Ghab Al-Anadalus.
The given name, Casa Xonar, stands for rest, sleep and dreams. It offers a perfect accommodation in the center of the old town Silves. With this history in mind, Xonar reflects its historical context with a private image throughout the house, from its Islamic exterior with white-wash finish to its roof terraces and hidden bedrooms.
Designed by Studio Arte, Casa Xonar is a house that unfolds when we move from space to space. The light box lounge is surprising in its fresh combination between the vintage and the modern. Portuguese design and selected pieces of art take us on a journey to a modern Casablanca. The lounge bedroom provides simplicity in comfort with its luxurious bed and pixel art. Opening up to the patio, the plunge pool together with the ambient sounds creates a fresh and relaxed atmosphere on a hot summer evening.
Then ascending through the original marble staircase to the boudoir bedroom, another room to discover, which takes us back to a romantic era. Here our story continues with a mirror sensation and a film library with a selection of Indi films to enjoy and learn. From here we can discover two terraces; one private with the well-known Arabic designs, which show beautiful shadows, the other with a lounge corner and outdoor fireplace. With the interior design by Janneke de Bruijn of Lusco Fusco it has become a great whole; with each part we find comfort and dynamism. This design labyrinth continues on this floor in the main bathroom with rain showers and 1940s inspired art.
Towards the stars, we find the roof terrace on the second floor which is well equipped with two sun beds, an outdoor shower and an outdoor kitchen, with an amazing view over the city and the adjacent landscape. An absolute must to enjoy the sun here.
The star lounge, or its Portuguese called "O patio das estrelas", can be found at the highest point of the house; a small place created for the hot summer nights or to fall asleep watching the stars. More importantly, it gives a 360 degree view of Silves.
