Slagharen amusement park is one of the oldest and best-known amusement parks in our country. Slagharen was founded in the 1960s as a 'pony park', but quickly grew into a real amusement park. Attractions were added, such as a large swimming pool and a monorail. Today, visitors are mainly drawn to the Wild West theme that is reflected in most attractions, such as the Gold Rush roller coaster, the Wild West Adventure waterway and the octopus Tomahawk. The swimming pool has now been replaced as a real tropical water park; the Aqua Mexicana, with a nice Mexican twist. Borger is the dolmen capital of the Netherlands. In the woods around this village in Drenthe you will find no fewer than 16 different dolmens, including the largest in our country. You really feel like you are in prehistoric times! In the accompanying information center you will get to know the earliest inhabitants of Europe; the Ice Age farmers who built the dolmens nearly 5,500 years ago. Through multimedia productions you learn all about their local customs and rituals, about how they lived and lived, about hunting traditions and of course about their building methods. In addition, three prehistoric farms have been built; one from the Stone Age, from the Bronze Age and from the Iron Age. Kids will love wandering through these ancient monuments and getting to know our prehistoric ancestors! Borger is about a 40-minute drive from holiday park 't Hooge Holt. In the outlying area between Hardenberg and Gramsbergen, close to the German border, are the pond gardens of Ada Hofman. This garden complex is over two hectares in size and includes dozens of ponds. Two of these are large natural ponds, while the others are smaller and landscaped. Ada Hofman became known for writing several pond and horticultural books. In the eighties of the last century she decided to give shape to her vision of ponds in a real pond garden, which was created in 1987. Hofman has succeeded in bringing together one of the largest collections of plants, shrubs and trees in our country. As a visitor you walk through all this natural greenery via the many pebble paths that run through the gardens. In the meantime, you can marvel at the rich flora and fauna: Hofman's garden is also rich in all kinds of animal species: there are various species of fish and birds (including the kingfisher), and the frog population is the largest in our country. Bring a picnic basket, take a seat on the lawn and enjoy the peace and space in this enchanting part of Overijssel.

Ommen is about 25 kilometers from holiday park 't Hooge Holt. A visit to this city is an absolute must. Nature and culture are beautifully intertwined here. Ommen has a rich history and is known for its wooded area. Thanks to its location on the Vecht, the town grew into an important local trading center in the Middle Ages, and traces of this can still be seen today. If you walk through the bustling heart of the city, you will see that the old commercial buildings have largely been preserved. The immediate vicinity of Ommen is also interesting. To the south you will find the drifting sand De Sahara, a vast walking area with large areas of forest, dunes and heathland. Here you can walk, cycle or ride a horse for hours and enjoy nature.
