A fitness trail has been laid out in the forest, within walking distance of the bungalow. There are about 20 obstacles that you can complete. The course winds through a beautiful nature reserve with accumulations of sand and forest. Even if you do not want to undergo the trimming efforts on the way, you still have a nice walk.
This corn mill dates from 1749. He was restored in 1984-1985 and is provided with a whole new wheel. The (undershot-) mill is operated by the Sway Beek. The mill is a cozy restaurant. From the mill, excursions are organized by the owner of the mill, to the nearby nature Bekendelle. Here is the kingfisher before.
The Korenburgerveen is an extensive swamp area within walking distance of the bungalow (5 minutes). The Korenburgerveen consists of raised bogs, swamp forests, heaths and nutrient-poor grasslands. Natuurmonumenten combats dehydration in the area, so that rare plant and animal species can be preserved. Korenburgerveen is an attractive walking area all year round. Excursions are given in spring and autumn, because that is when special plants bloom and there are many birds. This raised bog area has been excavated since the 14th century. Raised peat forms again in the peat pits. This involves specific plant species such as peat moss, annual cotton grass and lavender heather. The intervening peat dikes are overgrown with royal fern, gale and black currant. Due to its vulnerability, the Korenburgerveen is only accessible on the Meddose peat path, except during excursions. This marked path is often muddy. That is why a boardwalk has been constructed and there are several 'stick paths'. Tree trunks have been placed here so that you do not sink into the peat soil. In the future, Natuurmonumenten will also build walking paths through the edge zones of the peat, so that multiple detours are possible.

Bekendelle is an ancient species rich deciduous forest along the upper Slinge. It is part of a larger forest area which is particularly due to the meandering streams and shady woods along the water. These are the conditions for the presence of kingfisher and gray wagtail. The forest also breeds the rare middle spotted specht.De Slinge meanders naturally through the wetlands. There are hiking trails.
Those who walk and cycle in Winterswijk, she will at some point encounter: the beautiful Scholten Farms. The Scholten Farmers were first to the wealthy gentry serf farmers. With the decrease of the power of the nobility were the Boers themselves Scholten

Thanks to their traditional attitude has this part of the Netherlands much of its diverse, rural character. In the 19-th century the Boers Scholten beautiful villas across the farm. Their power was ended by the change in the Civil Code in 1838. It said that no longer a child could inherit the entire estate. It marked the beginning of the fragmentation of the Scholten Goods.

Furthermore, the Venn Zwillbrocker the northernmost nesting ground for flamingos in Europe. More than forty keep flamingos in the area op.Uitgebreide information awaits you in the bungalow.
Next to the Zwillbrocker Venn you will find the parish church of St. Franziskus. This Baroque church was the church for the adjacent Franciscan monastery until 1811. This church was of great importance to Catholics from Twente and the Achterhoek, just across the border in the Republic of the United Netherlands. The history of the church goes back to the time of the Reformation. The interior is definitely worth a visit.
