The name of the house = Hyggehûs is derived from the word Hygge - (pronunciation: Huuge), the Danish variant of the Dutch concepts of cosiness and cosiness in combination with Hûs, which is Frisian for home.

There is a lot to do in Lemmer. This old fishing village rightly deserves the name Poort van Friesland and has many facilities, including for water sports. This makes it an attractive, maritime center. Many boats moor in the middle of the village. It is therefore nice to stroll along the original shops, often located in historic buildings. The cozy terraces along the quays are popular. People like to sit there, because the boats pass right in front of them. The waterway through Lemmer is and remains a popular connection between the Frisian lakes and the IJsselmeer.

There are plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling in the area through the slightly hilly landscape of Gaasterland or along the many beautiful lakes. Forests, open fields, the IJsselmeer coast and cities such as Sloten, Stavoren, Hindeloopen and Workum offer plenty of entertainment and relaxation in the area. In the area you can rent bicycles or boats to discover Friesland from land and water. You can also have fun in the area on the golf course, in the riding school or with typical Frisian sports such as Fierljeppen or Skûtsjesilen. On the coast of the IJsselmeer there are several sandy beaches where you can have a great time with the children on a beautiful summer day. There is a lovely large children's playground in the neighboring village of Rijs.
