A lot of money has been invested in Drenthe in the past year to continue to innovate in this sector. The center of Emmen has recently undergone a complete renovation, with the old Zoo also giving way to the new WILDLANDS. Similarly, Atrractiepark Slagharen with various innovations and the arrival of Aqua Mexicana, a wonderful swimming paradise. For the little ones, Indoor Plopsa in Coevorden should not be underestimated. Fun meet & greets with the Studio 100 stars or the unique traffic park outside on the site. If you go to Orvelte to visit the museum village with children, ZOO bizzar is a must. There are skunks and armadillos that you can simply touch. Finally, there are swimming pools in Meppel and Hoogeveen, and you will find several natural lakes with beaches here. The closest is within 1 kilometer Beach Nijstad in Hoogeveen, with a restaurant and terrace on the water. TIP! You don't have to look for storks, unusual bird species or swallow farmers here, because they live here and just fly around. Whoever gets up a bit early will also be able to spot deer. They live in the adjacent varied forest area where you can walk for hours and enjoy the natural fens, it is heavenly beautiful. So here there there is a bench or a picnic table to relax and enjoy a drink or something to eat. As far as you know, you don't have to be afraid of pigs. The chances are that you will come across a very curious herd of Drentse Heideschapen. This funny sheep species is the oldest sheep breed in Europe. Do you want to know more about certain animal species, plants and trees? Forest walks with the forester are regularly organized in the vicinity. The Stork Outdoor Station De Lokkerij located in De Wijk is also interesting to visit. The paths take you past heathland, forests, medieval cattle villages, bell farms, vast farmlands, idyllic village centers with artisan shops and atmospheric restaurants. We rent bicycles and child seats for a small fee per day. Various cycling & walking routes are ready, but if you have more specific wishes, we can put together a suitable route through the node system. You can park your own bicycles covered in a lockable room. The hiking trails are generally well maintained and there is a huge wide selection of hiking trails, something for everyone. There are also special asphalted walking routes available for people with reduced mobility or young families with buggies or prams. TIP!
