Mansarda in Toscane

*** This cottage has already been rented during the summer; In the same street you can rent 'Panoramica in Tuscany' (see link at the bottom) ***

Discover the secret Tuscany! Sorano, where the rocky landscape is interchanged by the beautiful Tuscan fields, offers an unforgettable time for any age. Here you can go hiking, swimming, horse riding, following creative workshops, visiting villages and the surrounding area or lazing with a book in one of the many cozy corners of the village.

For every taste are their own pace; On different terraces you can enjoy a real cappuccino or a delicious ice cream.

This cottage is in the heart of the historic part; With a great view of the green valley. Nature is wild and time seems to be quiet. Between the green, many animals run around (like wild boar). The surrounding rocks (from tufsteen) have been used as a dwelling house for animals, colombari, necropoli since the Etruscan period (a population later destroyed by the Romans).

From our house you can take a beautiful walk through the village to the old Via Cava to the other side and from there enjoy the view of Sorano and the hidden gems in the area.

In Sorano you will find various canteens, deeply dug out in the tufsteen where you can store your own wine, cheese etc., but also large scale dining arrangements are organized in the weekends.

If you happen to walk past a canteen with an open door, do not hesitate to take a look inside; The most villagers are very proud of their 'cantina' and invite you to look around and taste a glass of wine ...

We discovered Sorano by accident. If you live in Italy, there is much to see in terms of culture and nature. Nevertheless, we fell in love with this underestimated environment. Sorano is in the heart of Tuscany and is wilder of character and less touristy than the more famous villages and towns in the region. Take a look at the photo album; There is a lot to see and do in this area. You'll also fall in love with Sorano!

Located in the most characteristic part of the old Sorano. Fantastic views of Etruscan necropolis.
Already in the Bronze Age was inhabited Sorano and was later an important Etruscan settlement. Until the Middle Ages retained Sorano an important function. In 862 became part of the nobility Aldobrandeschi Sorano under the rule of Emperor Ludvico II. Then the Orsini family took the helm in 1312, from which period the still existing Orsini castle dates. From 1640 to 1737 reigned the Medici, afterwards the city in the hands of Lorena. Now houses the Orsini castle a museum and a 4-star hotel. During the summer season there are many courses in the field of art and culture georganiseerd.Sorano has the largest inhabited medieval part of the housing in the interior of the Maremma villages. This is mainly due to the inaccessible position of the town which makes it impossible to expand or modernize. Unfortunately, this also causes the local population about 40 years ago, is pulled into more comfortable homes. The neglected historical homes now call a melancholy atmosphere, the beautiful Tuscan nature that slowly leaving part of Sorano overwoekert.Van the three sister cities in the so-called "Tufa Area" Sorano is the least known, in the sense that the least research and excavations have taken place. Ironically this nature as well as the better-preserved monuments, and Sorano is designated to be the centerpiece of the development project for a local Archaeological and Wild Life Park.
kaartHet fastest is to drive through Switzerland to Milan to take the A1 towards Rome. There are two exits on the A1 you bring in Sorano. (1) Take the motorway untill exit Chiusi, and go towards Radicofani. Just before entering Radicofani, follow the road signs to SS Cassia, from Rome to Siena runs (goes back to Roman times), to the south, Rome. After about 7 km you will Sorano / Sovana right indicate. Follow the signs. Siena Sud de S.S. Cassia towards Rome. (2) Go a little further south, and exit at Orvieto. Head towards town, not quite to the old part, but towards Viterbo. After several u-turns to the high plateau to come, keep direction to Viterbo to plate Lorenzo Nuovo. Go right towards Lorenzo Nouvo. Once there, follow the signs Pitigliano untill a crossing with the regional board 'Toscana'. Follow the signs right towards Sorano / Sovana.Vanaf the south, Fiumicino Airport, is the best route through the highway 'Aurelia' direction Civitavecchia. After Civitavecchia motorway is a motorway. Continue untill Mont'Alto del Castro. Follow the signs towards Valentano. In Valentano follow signs Orvieto untill a three point. Right goes one direction Orvieto, links to Pitigliano.
