Villa Sigliano

Villa Sigliano is a farm villa, located on over 14 hectares of private land and part of a 350 hectare estate belonging to the Montauto castle, which has been owned by a family from Florence since the 12th century.

The house dates partly from the 12th century, partly from the 18th century, and was thoroughly restored in the late 1990s while retaining its rugged and robust character. It is located in an oasis of peace at an altitude of 550 meters, so it is not too hot in the evenings, and is reached via a 1300 meter long dirt road. Its crazy layout makes it cozy and practical for both a small family and larger groups of people.

The living area is approximately 770 m2, with a number of large rooms downstairs that can be used for various purposes. The dining room is centrally located with a 6 meter long table made from a chestnut tree from the forest, where people can work or eat or play games. There is also a cozy sitting room, a piano room, and a ping pong room. Upstairs is a long corridor with six bedrooms, each with its own bathroom (incl. shower, sink, toilet and bidet). Due to the thick walls, the bedrooms are not noisy.

The interior of the house is rural and simple, accentuated by the more than a hundred chestnut and oak beams that adorn all the ceilings in the house. The kitchen was renovated in 2020.

The terrace with large table at the front (south-facing) provides an indescribably beautiful and distant view of more than 180 degrees of the surroundings, with the Umbrian hills in the distance. In the evening you can enjoy the dark, clear starry sky in the loungers on the lawn and the breathtaking silence that is only interrupted by animal sounds (including wolves in the valley).

The rear terrace provides shade in the morning and there is a dining table with BBQ.

The 14 x 5 meter saltwater swimming pool has a spacious terrace on the long and short sides with sun loungers and 360 degree views. There is a spacious fence around the swimming pool area..

The olive grove has approximately 180 trees and there are several young fruit trees around the swimming pool.

The Tabacchaia located next to the house (where tobacco leaves were once dried) has been partly restored and currently serves as a storage space for garden tools. The former stables located next to the olive grove are used for storing wood.

Next to the house is a vegetable garden of over 20 x 10 meters, which is used all year round.

From the house you can walk endlessly on the surrounding estate and the adjacent estate (the total nature reserve is over 1,200 hectares), with Montauto Castle on top of the hill where Saint Francis of Assisi once walked to stay in the small chapel.

The picturesque medieval village of Anghiari is about a 15-minute drive from the house (see tips), and is not yet overrun by tourists. There are some pleasant squares with nice restaurants and pizzerias, a few butchers, a bakery, a greengrocer, and banks and pharmacies. The famous linen brand Busatti also has its shop and factory there.

Near Anghiari are charming villages such as Caprese Michelangelo (with Michelangelo's birthplace as a museum) and Monterchi (with the Museo della Madonna del Parto, where the famous fresco by Piero della Francesca can be viewed), a 10-minute drive from Anghiari is the 11th century town of Sansepolcro (where Pierro della Francesca was born and died) with the beautiful civic museum and the beautiful Cathedral. There is also a herbal museum.

In Anghiari you can also rent a tennis court. The nearest golf course is Casentino Golf Club Arezzo (13 holes) in Poppi, about 50 km from the house. The beautiful new Antognolla Golf Club with 18 spectacular holes is 70 km away. The 85-year-old L'Ugolino Golf Club (18 holes) is located about 100 km from the house, south of Florence.

Arezzo with its famous antique market, cathedral and archaeological museum is a 30-minute drive away, and Florence is an hour and a quarter drive away.

There are numerous restaurants in special places within a 30-minute drive from the house.
