Holiday house

Casa Bella Vista

This unique house is beautifully situated on the outside of the beautiful village of Farindola. It is a wonderful place for nature lovers, with the convenience of the village within walking distance. From the house and from the terrace you have a beautiful view of the national park with its untouched nature, the surrounding hills and the mountains. Around the house is the garden, terraces with fruit, nuts and other trees.
The swimming pool is nearby. You can relax on the sun chairs. There is also a bar.

The street where the house is located is very old. The path continues all the way down past the house.

The village has a nice historic center with nice bars, restaurants, shops, bank and post office. Within walking distance you will find a centro sportivo with a nice swimming pool with sun chairs, sun beds and a bar. There is also a free-use tennis court and a football field.

In and around the village there are traditionally fun village festivals in summer, where you can get acquainted with the local specialties.

The beautiful Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park is a stone's throw away. Beautiful nature and unique fauna guarantee a wonderful holiday in nature.
Up in the mountains you will find Campo Imperatore, the famous plateau also called "Little Tibet" by the Italians. There you can go for a walk, encounter wild horses, enjoy the wild nature, pick flowers and herbs and with lunch you buy some meat that you can grill yourself on the ready BBQ. It tastes extra good there. There is a wide choice of local meat and cheese specialties.

A day at the beach is easy to do. You tour on quiet roads through the hills to the coast. Every bend offers a new panorama. The Adriatic Sea is wonderful and clean (blue pennant) for swimming. For lunch you take a tasty fish meal. Nowhere does the fish taste better than on the coast.

In the evening it is lovely after enjoying the roof terrace surrounded by a night sky with countless stars. With a bit of luck, an owl will come along.

You will not soon forget a holiday in Abruzzo.

In 2004 I got to know the beautiful region of Abruzzo for the first time. I still enjoy the charming Italian life in my olive grove every day. While exploring the region, we found this lovely place surrounded by greenery and next to a nice village. Surrounded by the exuberant nature and the sympathetic Abruzzi we have already spent many wonderful hours here. I hope to welcome you one day, to have the same fantastic experience.

Location & area recommendations

Additional information

It is a typical Italian house with huge thick walls and wooden shutters on the windows, to cool you off in summer and held you warm in winter.
The house has been restored and modernized to our modern standards.
It is the last house of the village. You feel one with the surrounded nature and still have the comforts of the village within walking distance.

It's an ancient street. Until a few years ago, you could walk down to the river below and take a bath there. For the truly adventurous, it is still possible to do so but you have to be prepaired that nature took over.
On either side of the street your find our garden with fruit and nut trees.
The car will be parked on the last piece of the asphalt road (15 m).
On the 1st picture you see the home front.
The 2nd picture shows the back with a piece of garden.
The 3rd picture shows the old door down to see.
The 4th picture shows the street with the house immediately to the right (not visible).
On the ground floor an entrance hall, a fully equipped kitchen with a fireplace, a spacious living room, a bathroom and a bedroom with bunk beds. On the first floor is a very large 2 bedroom with a 2-bed. It is possible to put an extra bed. A second large bedroom with 2 beds and also the possibility to put in an extra bed. A bathroom with shower, toilet, bidet and washbasin. On the first floor is the beautiful and very large roof terrace with fantastic views of the mountains in the national park, the river and the area beyond. At the terrace are a large parasol, tables, chairs, a bench and a BBQ. All rooms have a magnificent views to the surroundings, mountains and hills.
Around the house you find several terraces with beautiful fruit and nut trees. Of course you are free to pick the fruits and nuts. Also there are some fragrant herbs like oregano.
After crossing the very quiet road below you find the river with some public picnic tables.
In summer it is nice being there and to take a bath in the river to cool off.
When you are lucky our Italian neighbour woman will surprise you with a fresh egg.
Farindola, with a nice historical centre, is picturesquely situated on a top of a hill on the edge of the beautiful national park: Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga (see also section Parks.) with lots of unspoilt flora and fauna.
Not so far there is a very nice restaurant called l'Orso, which means 'The Bear'. There was seen a bear years ago, but normally they are not that close. They live very high in the mountains.
In the summer there are many nice festivals organised in Farindola and surroundings, where you can enjoy Abruzzi food and drinks.
There are a some nice bars and restaurants, some shops, a post office and a bank. The bakery, for your fresh bread, is only 5 minutes walk.
Abruzzo is a beautiful green and sparsely populated region located in central Italy, roughly between Rome and the Adriatic Sea. Particularly abroad it is still a relatively unknown region.
About 80% of Abruzzo is protected nature. There are about 30 national, regional or other parks.
There are 4 provinces (named after their capital cities: Chieti, Teramo, L'Aquila and Pescara.
Pescara is by far the largest city and province. There is a large marina. In August traditionally the harbor festival will be organised. During the summer there are several festivals organised.
In Pescara you find everything a large city has to offer, good to excellent restaurants, bars, nightclubs, (exclusive) shopping, especially late in the afternoon.
The boulevard along the beach is very long and runs north through to Montesilvano/Silvi Marina.
Pescara is well connected by the autostrada to north, south and west, has large bus and train stations, good ferry connections and the Abruzzo International airport (tip: check Ryanair flights).
Visiting the national park of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga or the Maiella you can hardly imagine that it is still possible to visit such a place on our globe.
It is so stunningly beautiful. You will find beautiful and unique flora and fauna. There are horses in the wild, foxes, bears, deer, wolves etc.
High in the sky you spot the most beautiful birds, some with huge wings.
The parks have various walking trails. Sometimes you have to search a little where the path is going, because the paths are certainly not trodden by many visitors. But if you follow the route the reward and satisfaction will be great.
Besides the large national parks, there are also many other parks. Abruzzo is a great area for nature lovers, walking in all kinds of levels, hiking, mountain climbing, fishing etc.
When the weather is good you go from Farindola up in the mountains to Campo Imperatore (here also called “Little Tibet”) you can buy some meat and grill it your self at the BBQ's standing ready for you.
See also the websites of Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga or Parca Nazionale della Maiella.
There are so many things to do in Abruzzo we hardly know where to start.
Abruzzo is a paradise for walking at all levels.
You already can start from the house.
Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga is a large park and you will not be able to see it all in several weeks. Every day you can go to a new destination easily.
But also a nice park like Lago di Penne (WWF protected) is only 10 minutes drive away.
And there are lots of nice historical villages to visit, like Penne, Loreto Aprutino, Collecorvino, Castiglione Messer Rainmondo etc. You will enjoy driving in a car here. Traffic jams are very rare and the views are magnificent. After every hill there will be a different landscape.
There are lots of nice bars and restaurants everywhere.
The food in Abruzzo is a celebration in itself and so is the Abruzzen wine.
A number of famous cooks learned how to cook in the famous Abruzzen cooking schools.
The year around it is good for hiking, biking, horse riding, mountaineering sports, swimming in pool (summer), river or sea, fishing etc. The nearby wellness hotel in Rigopiano offers luxury pampering.
In summer it is great to visit one of the beautiful sandy beaches, do some sports activities, swim in the nice and clean Adriatic Sea (blue ribbon) with a lot of safe places for children (dams along the coast and the beach surveillance). When hungry you take some fresh fish for lunch, it will never taste better than at sea.
Also don't forget to visit some of the summer festivals.
In September grapes will be picked and wine will be made and in October the olives will be picked. You like to know how it is? An extra hand is always very welcome.
And of course it's also possible just to relax and enjoy the good Italian life.
Also in winter it is a good time to visit Abruzzo.
Even when it's cold it's still possible to sit outside in the sun in your t-shirt with snow at your feet.
As soon as the sun goes down it's time to sit next to the fireplace with a good glass of wine.
Many of the summer activities can also be done in winter.
Most winters there is enough snow for winter sports.
Cross country skiing can be done in Villa Celiera. Only 20 minutes drive away.
Skiing is done on several places in Abruzzo, for instance from l'Aquila, Passo Lanciano or Roccarasso (more than an hour drive).
A short distance from the house, just above Villa Celiera you will find an excellent cross-country area. There is almost always good snow. From Villa Celiera there is a grand view towards the sea and the whole area, the National Park of Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga and Parco Nazionale della Majella.
Location
Beautifully situated house at the end of the village and on the edge of nature park Gran Sasso, fantastic views from all rooms, garden and terrace.
In the pictures you can see the plateau Campo Imperatore, where many summer picnic are held.

Climate
Throughout the year there is a pleasant climate. In summer average of 35 gr. During winter the day it just can be 25 degrees Celsius.

Activities
Almost the whole year delicious mountain climbing or just walking and picnicking in the wilderness of national parks

At about 35 km away is the Adriatic Sea with beautiful sandy beaches and to the south the Trabocchi coast bays.

Delicious cuisine of Abruzzo, with many specialties, such as Gitarra (special pasta of the region). Good wine, liqueur and grappa. Many good Ristorante or Agriturismo. Price? Is it highly!

Shopping: Pescara is a nice seaside resort and port location. A fantastic omzooms boulevard with palm trees. There is always much to do. Shopping is a party. Prada or Dior? For large and small purse. Good entertainment.
