We wanted to sit within walking distance of shops, eateries and cafes. This also liveliness to do right around when we would go with our children. And tropical gardens and large swimming pool with a panoramic view and a wide porch were the minimum requirements when we built it seven years ago. We call it sometimes a "Slice of Paradice" We stay there myself three months per year. Frederique Fontaine

Additional information

Villa Padma is on the outskirts of the village Kalibukbuk, where the Dolphin Statue is the center of Lovina in Northern Bali. After about 3 minutes on the scooter, you can sit on one of the many terraces overlooking the sea, or you can wander around the shops and eateries, of which there are many. The villa is an information guide to the, in our opinion, most notable eateries. The most remarkable eatery we mention here: Bali9. A tiny restaurant with two tables, and an even smaller kitchen. But the fish-sate particles are delicious. Another attraction is the restaurant at hotel Damaj. Situated in the mountains, about 5 minutes drive from the villa. There is a pick-up and home delivery service available from the hotel. The prices list here are Western, but it is greatly enjoy! In Kalibukbuk itself is the diving school (Spice Dive). This dive center is PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) certified. They bring you to the most beautiful diving and snorkeling sites, including to the incredibly beautiful coral reef near the island of Nusa Menjangan. This you should really have seen a 'colorful fish and coral. Furthermore, there is a market in Ubud, Bali, of course, there's even a bakery where you can buy cheese (the owner is a Swiss) and there are a number of small supermarkets. For the youth there is even a disco in the village, but for those who want to go out of their minds for some years it is not a suitable environment. North Bali is (thankfully) not nearly as touristy as the south of Bali (Kuta example). Life in the north has its purity preserved.
Other attractions in the area (about 15 minutes drive) are the Gitgit waterfalls and the Air Panas (the "holy hot springs"), well worth a visit. We encourage you to visit the hot springs to take to go. Along the water an extra T-shirt with When we were there, we noticed that the local population had no western swimwear, but the water was also in T-shirts. They find it otherwise do not mind to see you in your western outfit but we still felt a little embarrassed and then only with the clothes we had gone into the water (to naturally dry sometimes quickly, but still ... ). What really is worth a visit is the only Buddhist monastery in Java, the Brahma Vihara Ashrama, also the small Borobudur genoemd.Het monastery is inhabited by some of Balinese monks. From the monastery has a magnificent view over the land and the water. Admission is free but a donation for the upkeep of the monastery is greatly appreciated. The monastery is located close to the Air Panas. So if you already take a T-shirt for the Air Panas, do not forget to take to do when visiting the monastery. Extra sarong with
Singaraja, the former capital of Bali is a 15-minute drive from villa Padma. Nice to have seen a particular middle class. How shall I describe it: a kind of container shops where your eyes looking forward. Not so much fashionable but mostly curious, certainly for the Westerner. Well, you have to experience it yourself. There is also in Singaraja recently a Carrefourt: we still need to look and can not give any detailed description. The pasar is quite impressive.
If you like golf (or want to try one more time) than there is in Bedugul (about an hour's drive from Villa Padma) the cream of the crop. There is among the top five in Asia 18-hole course, Bali Handara Kosaido Golf and Country Club, designed by the renowned architect Peter Thompson. The high altitude (about 1000 meters) the temperature is more than pleasant, averaging around 20 degrees Celsius. Around the track you can enjoy the most beautiful tropical flowers, plants and trees. In Bedugul is also beautiful with the magnificent temple complex Bratan Pura Ulun Danu. Lake Bratan is very important for the irrigation of southern Bali. As a result, the temple complex, which dates from the 17th century, has become the center for ceremonies that are held to insure. A continuation of the water from the lake over Bali
And then there's Ubud ... .Beroemd for its artists: painters, silversmiths, sculptors and the world famous rice terraces. And, just like to the culinary life to come back: a lunch at the beautifully located restaurant Lotus just can not be missing in a holiday in Bali: a view of the huge lotus pond while enjoying the most exquisite Balinese specialties.
