Kalivi Elena

Kalivi Elena has been rebuild from a partly collapsed small house into a holiday cottage  for 4 persons. A kalivi is a traditional, typically stone house in the countryside used by farmers while working on their land. Goats, chickens and rabbits slept downstairs and the people upstairs would benefit from their warmth.

There is an open mezzanine bedroom with double bed which has a good quality, comfortable matress. The fully equipped, large kitchen is built in traditional style but with all modern comforts. A large refrigerator with freezer, a dishwasher, four-burner electric stove and everything you need to not only for breakfast, but also to prepare a delicious dinner. The kitchen is large enough to allow comfortable eating inside. The living room has two armchairs that can be converted into two single spare beds. There is a functional fireplace and air conditioning. In the bathroom downstairs, formerly the shelter for the animals, a spacious shower, sink and toilet is fitted. Towels, beach towels, bed linen, tea towels and hair dryer are all provided.

Outside you will be happily surprised to find a hot/cold shower, where you can enjoy showering with sea views in all privacy!!! There is also a small shed with garden tools, laundry rack and BBQ. On the sun terrace you can enjoy the surrounding nature and stunning views of the sea and mountains of Evia. Under a big tree near the Kalivi, there is also a shaded terrace with 2 loungers. Still not convinced? Check out the pictures.

Kalivi Elena in the hamlet of Kardamata can be reached via an unpaved road of about 300 mt. The nearest village with shops, restaurants and sandy beach is Platanias. From the parking a paved path leads up to the house.

Enjoy wonderful temperatures from Easter onwards, blossoming broom over the entire peninsula and very pleasant temperatures for hiking. In autumn, September and October, South Pilion is also a great option for a holiday destination. The sea invites you to swim, the restaurants are still open and we can speak of ideal hiking weather!!

Some time ago my husband and I decided to buy a house on the beautiful Pelion peninsula. At that time we where offered a piece of land with an old, partly collapsed Kalivi (stone house) and the idea was born for Kalivi Elena. Now only a few years later, the kalivi has been fully restored and now comprises a full equipped holiday home. We are honored to welcome guesst and make them enjoy their stay at Kalivi Elena in Pelion, the unspoilt and totally traditional Greece.

Additional information

Along the coastal road to the tip of Pelion you arrive at the island Trikeri. This can be reached by water taxi, and after a brief climb arrives at the beautiful monastery Evangelistria. Be sure to visit the church and light a candle or buy an amulet. At Trikeri island are several dining options. Still not hungry? Then pass on the way Koteš or Agria Kyriaki to eat a tasty fish. The white village of Trikeri which posted appears at the top, is worth a stroll.
From Argalasti you make a nice trip to the large beach of Potistika. In May, the left and right of the road is full of wonderfully scented broom.
From Platanias there is a beautiful coastal path to Mikro sandy beach.
The lovely beach of Fakistra is a fabulous place, isolated by two rocky capes, forming a lovely turquoise bay.
On this real paradisiacal place are the remains of an old tower.
This small bay is rocky and surrounded by lush greenery.
Few scenes from the Hollywood movie Mamma Mia! were filmed there in 2008.
Enjoy a coastal walk from Fakistra to Damouchari, where you can enjoy some very good food, and then walk back again.
The traditional mountain village of Argalasti is the main village of South Pelion and during the Turkish occupation was the financial, trading and cultural centre.
If you walk around the village you will be impressed by the traditional atmosphere and the old houses and mansions that bear in their architecture, elements from the ancient and Byzantine period.
Argalasti is host to a traditional local market each Saturday morning where local fruit and vegetable farmers and other tradespeople sell their goods.
On the way back from Trikeri Island via the white, picturesque village of Trikeri, head for the fishing village of Agia Kyriaki for a delicious meal with fresh fish. The very narrow streets will bring you back to the main road towards Milina. Along the way there are beautiful bays for a refreshing swim.
During the summer months it is possible to take a water taxi or boat to Skiathos town for the day.
A lively, vibrant town which contains a lot of small shops, ideal for the tourist, and many, many tavernas and bars.
Visitors to Makrinitsa, a traditional Pelion mountain village, will be amazed by its unique beauty and will never want to leave this dreamy place.
The village of Makrinista is a pure jewel hanging on the side of the amazingly green mountain. It is divided in two settlements, Koukourava and Moutsara, only 500m one from another.
The village is also known as the balcony of Pelion because of its amazing view due to its location (630m above the sea).
