Haus Am Butterberg

Welcome to Waltersdorf
Our house was built in 1879 and is a "Umgebindehaus". The unique and typical contruction of the Umgebindehaus is that it consists of a wooden part, called Blockstube and a stone section. Together they carrie the upper floor, which is composed of half-timbered walls bearing the turtelroof. These special houses are only found in this country triangle; Germany, Czech Republic and Poland.

The house was formerly occupied by several families: one family living in the Blockstube and a single lady in the stone part of the house. They shared the spacious hall, the simple and small bathroom and toilet.

Since June 2007 we are renovating the house. In the stone section. we have a modern kitchen now, with dishwasher, oven, refrigerator, freezer, microwave and cooker.
Also in this part of the house a luxurious bathroom with a washbasin, shower and toilet. In the backhouse we have retained.the small, old, original toilet and bathroom. The cozy living room with tiled stove is located in the wooden part of the ground floor (the Erdgeschoss). The living room has a TV, radio and a CD- and DVD player. You can relaxe in the lovely lounge sofa and have a good meal with family or friends at the big dining table

Upstaires, in the "Obergeschoss" are 3 large bedrooms: 1 bedroom with double bed and two rooms with twin beds. There is also a childrens- bed present.
The house is heated by gas fired central heating and the tiled stove.( We are connected to the central antenna.

There is a small garage (for the required red Trabant Convertible :-) and two sheds.

The house has a small ornamental garden on the northside and one on the southside with a higher lawn with terrace and BBQ.

The quiet, fairytale village is an ideal base for exploring the region. Discover the trails (the street, Czech Republic), here are the door (walking distance), wax your cross country skis and explore the boundary route, try here the cycling and mountain biking trails (with slopes up to 9%). The fairytale villages and the beautiful border town of Gorlitz.
And especially the beautiful cities of DRESDEN and PRAGUE are just 100/120 km drive!

Welcome to the Zittauer Gebirge

In the most southern part of Upper Lusatia is the Zittauer Gebirge. The regional capital Zittau gives access to an area with ample opportunities for relaxation .....

Swim in the Aquatic Trixi-bath (10 minutes) or to the beautiful Olbersdorfer See, about 15 minutes from our house, where you not only for swimming and sunbathing, but also (kite) surfing, volleyball, skating, etc.

The beautiful old steam train that departs from the station in Oybin, which runs through the entire Upper Lusatia and especially where the children are very excited about!

The Kletterwegen in Oybin.

The Rodelbahn in Oberoderwitz (summer and winter).

And discover at the foot of the 793 meter high Lausche "Waltersdorf" whereour house is on the Hauptstrasse,

We wish all our guests a pleasant stay in "Haus am Butterberg"

Welcome to our adventure!

Sincerely,
Frank and José Mol

We, Frank and Jose bought the house in June 2007. We fell in love with the lovely and sometimes rough environment, the friendly people and fairytale villages with Umgebindehauser. The proximity of Dresden and Prague were certainly a good reason to learn more about this part of Germany. We are glad we made this choice We loved every minute of it! We renovated a large part of the house with respect for the history, character and atmosphere.

Additional information

Welcome to Upper Lusatia

Upper Lusatia is the most eastern tip of southern Germany, it forms the border with the Czech Republic and Poland. Eastern Western history met here today in a beautiful landscape of rolling hills, dense forests and villages full Umgebindehäuser. A region where enthusiastic friendly and frank Sorbs, proud of their country and history, work hard on their future.

The village has a small grocery shop where ie fresh bread for sale. At 10 minutes from the village are 3 large supermarkets where everything is for sale. (Craft butcher / baker / pharmacy / liquor)

In our street is the restaurant of Hotel Quirle-Haus'l definitely recommended. A little further up the mountain are two fine restaurants, and Hubertusbaude Rübezahlbaude.
After a long walk up the mountain you can walk in the Czech Republic. Also there are several small and larger restaurants, which by our standards the prices a lot lower.

Ruimte genoeg in huis, gezellig ingericht, schoon. Tanken in Tsjechië!
