Fun facts about Saxony

  • The small town of Görlitz has been the set for many TV shows and films. One of the films made here is the famous ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ (which was not filmed in Budapest).
  • Saxony has several theme parks which makes it a fun destination for a family holiday: Belantis adventure park, the toy town at Seiffen and dinosaurs in the Sarierpark.
  • Saxony has a turbulent history. The ‘Free State of Saxony’ was originally created in 1918. Then, in 1945, this became the Federal State of Saxony. Later, in 1952, as part of the German Democratic Republic, this was divided into three separate regions. Finally, in 1990, the Federal State of Saxony was once again reinstated.
