Mont Ventoux: a challenge for every cyclist!
On each day, each season you meet them: the cycling adepts, they are always working on or around the Mont Ventoux. What drives them? If you ask this question you get no clear answer, but the challenge is always there, the nature, the weather, the atmosphere in combination with a holy need rear ......... Or as we read "In the track from the pros. " In the lovely Provence, with its fragrant lavender fields and terraces under plane trees, lies a gruesome berg.Als Provence "the Beauty", then the Mont Ventoux "The Beast". This "Giant of Provence" or "The Bald Mountain" or even the "Olympus of Provence" labeled pimple is particularly heavy, sweltering hot, or rather chillingly cold, windy and especially grueling ........ This is not exactly a promotional text .............. and still there are available each season swarms of cyclists. Apparently they still find what they are looking for! Not everyone is a Ventourist or Ventousiast, but will sometimes take a trip, it is also possible if you have no bike with you, because in the vicinity are great bikes for rent! .

An Eldorado for walkers?
Yes, absolutely coast and label. Might fall short your imagination, we have access to many possible routes in that area. Once you believe in: walk among the extensive lavender fields in our area and in season the scent sniffing a lavendeldistellerie in operation or look at how sometimes even with diligent craftsmanship lavender is harvested. The broom is omnipresent but, lavender is of course central to this region, but in addition to the extensive lavender fields, nature is overwhelmingly beautiful and the villages along the absolutely counterbalance for our contemporary gejakker ............ . Absolute musts are visits to "La Vallée de la Toulourenc" formed by the river that of swirling or rippling is "toul ou RENC" or called "all or nothing". The capriciousness of this river is mirrored in its environment and can be experienced via a walk in the summer usually dry bed.

A bientôt!

After many wanderings in France with the caravan, we decided to buy or build a house in the region around the Mont Ventoux. The choice fell on beautiful Montbrun-les-Bains. In 2000, when I was 59, I bought a building plot, made plans together with an English architect, looked for a contractor and in 2004 the shell was finished.
It is now all ready and we enjoy the house, the beautiful nature and the wonderful climate.
Hope to see you in Montbrun-les-Bains, because this is where the sun lives!

Additional information

The Mont Ventoux: a challenge for every cyclist! You meet them every day, in every season: the cycling adepts, they are always busy on or around the Mont Ventoux. What drives them? If you ask this question you will not get a uniform answer, but there is always the challenge, the nature, the weather, the atmosphere in combination with a sacred need……… Or as you can read “In the trail of the pros”. In the lovely Provence, with its fragrant lavender fields and the cozy terraces under plane trees, lies a gruesome mountain. If Provence is “the Beauty” then Mont Ventoux is “The Beast”. This “Giant of the Provence” or “The Bald Mountain” or even the “Olympus of the Provence” labeled pimple is especially heavy, sweltering hot, or on the contrary, excruciatingly cold, windy and above all debilitating…….. This is not exactly a recruiting text ………….. and yet every season swarms of cyclists can be found. Apparently they find what they are looking for! From the apartment there are plenty of opportunities to take bike rides and conquer the Mont Ventoux from all directions. But don't forget to take a trip through “La Valleé du Toulourenc” or along “Les Gorges de la Nesque”. And let yourself be tempted to have a lunch en route in one of the many places that you come across on the way. We can advise you on that. Not everyone is a Ventourist or Ventousiast, but would like to take a trip, which is of course possible if you don't have bicycles with you, because there are excellent bicycles for rent in the area!
Yes, absolutely overkill. Should your imagination fail, we have available many possible routes in that area. Just imagine: walking between the extensive lavender fields in our area and in the season sniff the scent of a working lavender thistlery or see how the lavender is sometimes harvested with diligent manual work. The broom is omnipresent, but the lavender is of course central to this region, but in addition to the extensive lavender fields, the nature is overwhelmingly beautiful and the villages along the way are an absolute counterbalance to our contemporary jabber............ With the apartment as a base you have many options around and if you wish, we can bring you to the starting point of that day or, if desired, - for a reasonable fee - pick you up where you have ended up through your hunches....... ..... In these cases, a mobile phone can prove to be a blessing....... We recommend absolutely trips in "La Vallée de la Toulourenc" formed by the river of the same name that is either swirling or rippling: "toul ou renc" or "all or nothing". The capriciousness of this river is reflected in its surroundings and can be experienced via a walk in the usually dry bed in summer. Such a walk can end in the higher Brantes with an environment and an Auberge that you would wish for at such a moment.
Walking through the Toulourenc The Gorges, gorges of the Toulourenc are beautiful. They are all the way to the south and the river Toulerenc is the border between the Drôme and the Vaucluse. It is near Mollans-sur-Ouvèze and Malaucènes which is located in the Vaucluse. Here is a walk through the water that is also great fun to do with the whole family. It can be very busy in high summer. You can choose to go back and forth through the water or to take a higher footpath on the way back. Be careful, do not do this walk if it is raining or if it is about to rain. The water can suddenly start to rise, especially during thunderstorms. Difficulty: easy to moderate (there is a 200m section where you have to climb over the rocks) Length: 9 km round trip Duration: 3 hours Height difference: +55m Hiking map: IGN TOP 25 3140 or Mont Ventoux Bring: Waterproof bag To get there to arrive: From Malaucène, take the D242 towards the hamlet of Veaux. From Veaux, continue on the D242 for approximately 500m. Parking at the bridge over the Toulourenc River. Description: From the bridge over the Toulourenc you walk upstream along the river. Once on the water it is very easy. You just follow the river there and back for about 9km. You pass through small gorges with beautiful blue water. It is wonderfully cool in the water on a warm August day of more than 35°C. You therefore walk in the shade at many places in Gorges de Toulourenc Drôme. After you have walked through all the small gorges, a bee will come to a rocky outcrop that you have to climb over. They are large abutting boulders where the water can flow quickly here and there. The rocks can also be slippery, so be careful. Especially with small children. If the water is low enough, it can run down the side, but that's not always the case. After the rocks, the river becomes wider and the water calmer. It is then about 1 km walk before he arrives at beaches and finally at a bridge over the water with a parking lot. Here you can choose to walk back through the water or to take the GR91, which after a short while runs along the over with the stands up. This route is often very hot in high summer.
Vaison-la-Romaine Vaison-la-Romaine, as the name implies, has an important Roman heritage. Known for its Roman ruins, Vaison-la-Romaine also boasts a charming medieval old town, the High City. The Gallo-Roman ruins, which make up the largest archaeological field in France, extend over the site of la Villasse and the site of Puymin. The archaeological museum is located on the site of Puymin. The city visit continues with the Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth cathedral and the cloister, which is a fine example of Provençal Romanesque art. The fortified gate from the 14th century, with the belfry tower, marks the entrance to the medieval city and its beautiful houses. The castle of the Counts of Toulouse, built in the 12th century, dominates the city complex. ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONVAISON-LA-ROMAINE Vaison-la-Romaine is a town in the Vaucluse, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, 28 km northeast of Orange. The urban area of ??almost 27 km² lies between the corridor of the Rhone Valley in the west and the foothills of Mont Ventoux and the Provençal Baronnies in the east. Crossed by the course of Ouvèze, the site of Vaison has been inhabited since prehistoric times, but it is under the Gallo-Roman antiquity that the city develops. Capital of a Celtic tribe conquered by the Romans, it becomes one of the richest cities of the province of Narbonne after an alliance with Julius Caesar. Initiated in modern times and continued in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, archaeological excavations will highlight this golden age and give its name to the city. In the Middle Ages, the Count of Toulouse built a castle on a rocky height and a second city surrounded by ramparts, safer for the inhabitants, was introduced. Now consisting of an upper town and a lower town in which the ancient remains alongside the contemporary urban extensions, Vaison-la-Romaine which has nearly 6200 inhabitants has preserved a rich heritage covering over 2000 years of history. In addition to its winemaking (wines of the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation), it is a major tourist attraction in the heart of a region with a privileged climate. SIGHTSEEING On both sides of the Ouvèze, whose deadly flood in 1992 still evokes memories, the Upper Town and Lower Town form a formidable open-air museum that appeals to heritage lovers. You can start a long journey that was discovered through the upper town, surrounded by medieval ramparts. The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption was built to the east of the hill in the fifteenth century, and was expanded in the late sixteenth. Its rich decorations fell victim to looting during the Revolution and then it was abandoned in favor of the first cathedral, in the “low city”. Restored, the building now hosts regular cultural events. Dominating the whole, then towards the castle of the Count of Toulouse built in the thirteenth century, including three fortified buildings and a square dungeon around a beautiful courtyard. From the forecourt you can enjoy an unparalleled view of the whole of Vaison. It is pleasant to stroll through the narrow and winding streets of the medieval city, dotted with old houses and picturesque squares decorated with fountains. After this city within the city, the visitor is called upon to delve into a more distant past and still traverse the 15 hectares of ancient ruins of Puymin en Villasse. Ancient thermal baths, opulent villas, water tower, shops and magnificent theatre: you will discover these well-preserved remains of the prestigious Roman city during a free visit or commented on. Special sessions for families are also planned. Open all year except the second weekend of January to the second weekend of February. Price: 4 and 9 euros (pass valid for all archaeological sites). Information and reservations at +33 4 90 36 50 48. We will not forget the Roman bridge of the first century, calling it a historical monument since 1840. A strategic site for utilitarian and commercial purposes. This great work has withstood weather and floods thanks to its clever architecture. See also the Cathedral of Our Lady of Nazareth, built from the eleventh century (before the rise of the upper city), and for which blocks of ancient monuments were once again used. Impressive or even austere (few openings), it is, however, an example of Provençal Romanesque art with its carved decorations. In the twelfth century it was endowed with an octagonal dome where the evangelists appear. The remarkable cloister adjacent to the cathedral, with its galleries and decorations, completes the visit.
