Gîte / Cottage

Les Petites Pierres

Les Petites Pierres, (small stones), is a charming renovated 18th century cottage that is furnished to a high standard. It has a 'typical French' feeling with original oak beams and an electric
stove with effect wood stove. The well-equipped kitchen has a gas stove, fridge-freezer, microwave and washing machine, kettle, toaster, lots of pots and cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.

The shower room + toilet is located downstairs, with a shaver and a heated towel rail.

The comfortable living-dining room has a solid oak fireplace and an electric heater with wood-burning effect for stays in the early / late season.

There is a TV (Freesat), video / DVD player, CD player and a selection of DVDs, books and games. An information pack contains many suggestions for day trips and detailed maps of the environment.

ABOVE: the 2 bedrooms have original oak beams and views of the woods at the front.
There is a double bed (190x140) and a bedroom with two single beds, and the latter is suitable for an extra young child with an extra bed.

A private terrace with table and chairs for sitting / dining is at the front of the Gite with another private dining with BBQ garden across the street from the chemin.

The large communal pool (9m x 4.6 mx 4.6 m and 1.2 m deep) is located in a wonderfully sheltered sun trap and is surrounded by a spacious sun terrace and is well closed. Sun beds, chairs and umbrellas are available to relax and sunbathe after a refreshing dive, as well as a children's pool for young children.

There are many beautiful walks here, and the really quiet lanes are excellent for cycling, we have 3 adult bikes available, you can also bring your own bikes or rent locally, in our large well equipped playing field you can enjoy - Football , table tennis and badminton. A Boules course is adjacent to the pool area, there are a selection of outdoor games and there is a croquet lawn next to the Potager garden. There is an abundance of local wildlife including, buzzards, woodpeckers, red squirrels, lizards and masses of butterflies and Ladybirds attracted by our Wildflower area (with its
maze paths). Our French chickens are also fun to look at and produce beautiful yellow-yellowed eggs - children like to help with feeding. Organic vegetables are available (for a small one

We moved here in July 2010 and have renovated our house and the third holiday home Gite. We then expanded the swimming pool, created a wildflower meadow, a secured area for our chickens, a Croquet lawn, a tiered Potager (organic vegetable garden) and a Boules court, so now there are more activities for our guests. We live on site so can advise you about the places to visit and eat. we are here to make your holiday as pleasant as possible.

Additional information

An hour and a fifteen minute drive away are the beautiful beaches and the picturesque La Rochelle, where there are museums, shops and restaurants. The Ile de Re has a 90 km bike path, and you can even encounter donkeys. We are here on a short drive from the two top theme parks, the Futuroscope in Poitiers, with all sorts of interactive attractions and rides, and the Puy du Fou, with spectacular outdoor shows and replica villages. The Marais Poitevin is a fascinating area with meadows and marshes - rent a boat there and sail for a day on the meandering streams. There are also walking and cycling paths. Locally there are several water parks, with swimming lakes, beaches, water slides and other water activities. Pescalis, a fishing lake, is only 10 minutes drive away - you can fish for carp up to 25 kg. 10 minutes away is the 'Adventure Forest' and a go-kart track (very popular with our visitors). North of l'Absie is the Rocher Branlant - the rock that moves a little when pushed. Parthenay, Niort and Poitiers are bustling cities with a medieval past. The village of Vouvant is great for hiking and the nearby Mervent has a small zoo. There is a Chateau at Coulonges sur l'Autize, and the Chateau and Jardin Medieval de la Guyonniere is located at Parthenay. A nice day trip can be made to the Chateau in Saumur and the Loire valley. Very close by is a number of excellent hiking and biking tours, for which we have detailed maps. We also advise on local festivals, markets, 'vide greniers' and special events. The iconic Tour de France 2018 starts just over the border in Vendee on 7 July. For the first 3 days, many events are only 19 - 50 minutes away! A real French experience for the door! After 3 exciting days in the Tour de France, you can enjoy the rest of your holiday in our area, where there are many cycle routes, a visit to the many tourist attractions, or just relax by the pool. We offer 8 nights, from Friday 6 July to Saturday the 14th to 7% discount! Contact us for more information. Free Wi-Fi is available on site for all gîtes and each gîte has a good selection of books and games. All kitchens are well equipped and we have cots, cot mattresses, children's plates and cutlery, high chairs, a baby bath, a changing mat and a pot for families with young children. There is an extensive range of information in each Gite from tourist attractions, local restaurants, to shops and walks. We have created two comprehensive map guides with details of more than 40 things to do / see within a 25-minute radius of Les Glycines and more than 100 things to do for a day out a little further. Detailed hiking maps and Michelin guides are also available. A welcome pack is included in every cottage on arrival - it includes some milk, cheese, bread, wine, barbecue charcoal and some of our own delicious eggs. We supply bed linen, small towels and kitchen towels, but ask you to bring your own bath towels and bed linen. There are two private sitting / dining areas for each of the 3 gîtes, a sunny and a shady, equipped with tables, chairs, umbrellas and a barbecue. During the months of July and August there is a daily delivery service of delicious traditional freshly baked baguettes, Croissants, Pain au Chocolat. The gîtes are located on a quiet little road that is rarely used, except the daily La Poste. The owners live on the premises in the main house and are available to offer help, give tips, book meals and make your stay as pleasant and carefree as possible.
