Location & tips

Additional information

Saulchoy is situated in a quiet, rural area ('the seven valleys'), where you can walk and cycle. The coast with picturesque fishing villages and fashionable resorts is about 20 km away. In the area there are many day markets, brocantes and fairs. For the children: There is plenty to do in the many seaside resorts. If you are looking for a fun activity with the kids not far from the coast, here are some tips. Parc Bagatelle (30 Min): This large family park south of Le Touquet-Paris Plage is the ideal place for a day out for the children. There are more than 44 family attractions to enjoy, including rides, shows, zoo and restaurants. Aqualud (30 min) .: Get acquainted with the Aqualud water adventure park. A pirate park, a wave pool, a vortex or an inflatable boat to dive into the Zwarte Gat. Nausicaä (65 km) .: The sea lions are the absolute toppers of the national sea center. And then you still have the tropical lagoon, fish in all colors of the rainbow and rays that you can caress. Beautiful cities, places and sights: Montreuil-sur-Mer (19 km). An old fortress with fortress walls to walk on, close to the neighborhood where '' Les Misérables '' by Victor Hugo was filmed. Every year in July (4x) and August (4x) sound and light plays take place with '' Les Miserables '' as subject and where residents dress for the occasion with costumes from the time of Victor Hugo. Reality and fiction then merge together in the historical framework of this architectural landmark: The Citadel. A cozy center with restaurants and (often separate) shops. Hesdin (17 km): Through the centuries-old town of Hesdin, which offers all facilities in addition to intimate atmospheric spots, 'La Canche' runs, one of the rivers that make the area 'Les Sept Valleés' so special. Once a week, on Thursday morning, Hesdin has a very nice market. AMIENS - CATHEDRAL AND OTHER SIGHTSEEING. Amiens was a prosperous city at an early age thanks to a plant from which the dye was made pastel blue. That plant could only be cultivated here thanks to the special moist lime soil. As a result, the city already had around 20,000 inhabitants in the 13th century. In the 16th century the textile industry flourished and brought great wealth. Amiens has the largest cathedral in northern France. Approximately 12,000 people can stand in it. The intention was that the local population could go there. Construction began in the 13th century and ended only in the 15th century. The clergy had managed to keep an important relic of St. John the Baptist in the church, namely his skull. The numerous pilgrims spent a lot of money in the drawer and ensured the successful completion of the prestigious building. The main attraction in the cathedral is the choir with 110 choir seats from the 16th century. Around this choir you will find the life of St. John the Baptist in 2x4 wooden scenes from the 16th century and on the other side of the choir the life of St. Firmin, who is the first bishop of Amiens to book. The bronze tombs also deserve attention because they were often destroyed during the French Revolution. As a miracle, this cathedral has been spared by the revolutionaries. No significant damage was done during the First and Second World War. As in every cathedral in this region you will also find a labyrinth in the middle of the church. In Amiens you will also find the Hortillonnages. This is an exceptional landscape of about 300 hectares. It is a former swamp that was created by peat cutting. The area was drained by digging canals and was laid out for the cultivation of the crop, which provided the pastel blue color. The islands that were created by this are very fertile because the sludge from the canals was deposited there. Here we grow mainly cauliflower, but also sugar beet with exceptional yields. You can sail these channels. Definitely worth a day trip. Also many good restaurants and shopping streets. CHÂTEAU-FORT THE RAMBURES (47 min) The castle and fort of Rambures (15th century) is considered a jewel of military architecture from the late Middle Ages, which was erected in one go on the basis of an original design. There is a walking path that leads you through the arboretum. FORT MAHON PLAGE (26 km). Fort Mahon Plage is a luxury seaside resort with a very large beach and is located in the middle of a protected dune area. You will find many restaurants, boutiques and also a casino. As a nature lover you will definitely enjoy yourself here. More than 400 bird species live in the Baie de Somme. There are also beautiful hiking areas in the area. CAVES OF NAOURS. Naours is a very small village at 54 km from Mouriez. Many tourists come here for the unique attraction of the underground city (Cité Souterraine). The underground caves have been in use for more than 1,500 years as a shelter.
