To the south-east of the Lozère lies the department of Gard; the eastern corner of the Languedoc-Roussillon province bordering Provence.
Here lies our house, situated 20 minutes from Montpellier, Nimes and the coast.
The house is on a sloping terraced terrain of 4000 m2 and is completely fenced. From the terraces you have a beautiful view over the valley.
Access via electric gate.
It is a typical Provencal villa, with several terraces to get in and out of the sun.
The atmosphere in the Gard is clearly Provençal. You notice that especially in the beautiful city of Nîmes, the Rome of France. The Roman amphitheater, the temple of the goddess Diana and the Roman aqueduct located outside the city, remind us of the time when this part of France was a 'Province' of the Roman Empire. Just outside the city is the huge aqueduct Pont du Gard. (nice for swimming)
The Gard is also known for the marshy lakes on the coast, the Petite Camargue. A walk over the fortification walls of the town of Aigues-Mortes offers a beautiful view of this 'dead water landscape' full of wild horses, flamingos and migratory birds.
A trip to a fascinating city or smaller place is soon made. Montpellier has as its beating heart the Place de la Comédie with its 19th-century opera house, the Three Graces Fountain and all kinds of cafes.
Take a look at Uzes and Arles or cycle to one of the nice markets in Sommieres or Calvisson: the Catalan heritage is clearly visible: the bullfights (the bull is not killed), the paella and the brightly colored houses.
And everywhere festivals.
Then get away from all the fun and party: the hinterland for a tour or hike through the quiet beauty of the Parc de Cévennes. Enjoy the surroundings as you sail along the road or across the water from the Canal du Midi (pleasure cruising) in the sun through wine fields to Pezenas, Bezier and Carcassonne. The restored medieval ramparts and towers can be seen from afar.
With (then) 3 young children you have your wishes regarding safety, luxury and privacy. In Congenies we found what we were looking for. Walking to the bakery, cozy, beautiful cities nearby, without traffic jams to the beach. A spacious cozy comfortable house, quiet, but in a real French environment. We enjoy the visits to the caves in search of that tasty wine, cycling through vineyards to authentic markets, a lunch on the beach and of course the drinks at the pool in the evening sun.

We moeten terug!
