Mejannes le Clap was a village of several houses until the late sixties of the last century. The first structures date back to the 11th century. For a long time it was a center for the production of charcoal. The old core can still be found at the chapel, which was restored at the end of the nineties on the initiative of several residents who had died in the meantime.
From the early seventies it has been designated as a point of interest by the Conseille du Gard. The number of permanent residents has grown from 17 to over 750. In the summer, there are about 5000 people from all over the world. Local entrepreneurs organize events in the commercial center. like concerts, organized.
In the Center Commerciale there are several restaurants, including a pizzeria (L'Italiano), a bar / tabac, a supermarket. there is also a room with billiards, play cabinets and the like. Near the Center Commercial is a Center Sportive, including a swimming pool (competition pool and children's pool and a slide), tennis court, basketball court and a riding school. The riding school also gives lessons to children and they do their best to make things clear to non-French speakers. near the town hall is a children's playground with bumblebees, seesaws and a table tennis table.
Near the village there is ample opportunity for walking tours. The Grotte de la Salamandre is also a few minutes away by car. A little further along the same road is the river Cèze, where you can swim. There is a spacious pebble beach.

To the north of the village is the Ardèche and to the west The Cevennes where many chestnuts can be found in autumn. Both areas are ideal for beautiful trips, such as along the Gorges de Ardèche. To the south is the Pont du Gard, just past Uzès. Uzès has a 9-hole golf course and the Haribo factory.

About 20 minutes away are the towns of Barjac - 2x antiques and curio market -, St. Ambroix, Uzès (eg annual truffle market). 10 minutes further the Pont du Gard, part of the aqueduct from Uzès to Nimes.
Nimes, Avignon, Orange are an hour's drive away. Arles is a little further.
About 2 hours away: Montpellier, Lyon, Marseille, Saintes Maries de la Mer (Camargue) with the black and white Madonna.

Culture:
In spring and autumn there are many musical events in the area. In Mejannes itself a great guitar event that also involves the villages in the area. In the winter of 2020, for example, the Ensemble Camerata de Saint-Victor-la-Coste performed under the direction of Georges Ciontu with the mezzo-soprano Christel von Lindstat as the soloist. In Bagnols sur Cèze and Barjac jazz events. Barjac is also known for the antique and curio brands. In the summer there are evening events at the Pont du Gard. There are also free shows on Saturday evenings in several larger cities.
At the end of September / beginning of October it is the chestnut time, roughly at the same time as the large sales of lots of wine and the Beaujoulais scoop. Twice a year there is the truffle market in Uzès.

Well-known wines in the area include: Gigondas, Vaqueras, Lirac, Chateau Neuf du Pape.

The Tour de Fance comes regularly, also in 2020. On September 3rd, the tour passes through St. Ambroix, approx. 15 minutes from the house.

The house has been in the family for many years. It is a resting point in our sometimes hectic life. The interior is in a way that we feel comfortable and that we hope you will like it also. It is also a good place to be other than summer season. There is plenty to do in the area, varying from visiting markets and friends to having lunch at the Pont du Gard. The Market in the nearby town of Uzès was nominated in 2018 as the best market in France.
