The old farm La Vieille Maison stands in the middle of the wonderful and peaceful nature of the Parc Naturel du Morvan. From the house, the (partly covered) terraces and the garden you have a beautiful view of the rolling hills around and the babbling brook the Dragne down in the valley. The farm dates from the beginning of 1800 and in 2008 after more than 60 years of vacancy it is thoroughly renovated while maintaining the original details. The living room with open kitchen has, thanks to the ceiling with huge beams and the modern wood stove to old model, a rustic and intimate atmosphere and is spacious enough to get comfortably through a possible rainy day. In the entire building there are original tomettes on the floor and all rooms are equipped with electric radiators.
The kitchen is well equipped for enthusiastic cooks. Crockery, etc. is available for eight people. The bathroom has a spacious shower, a sink and a toilet. Both bedrooms have wonderful box spring beds. For the little ones there is a high chair and a camp bed with a good mattress. La Vielle Maison is surrounded by a large child- and animal-friendly garden with flowers, lawn, fruit trees, walnut trees and a cozy picnic table. Our Dutch contact person welcomes you on arrival and explains La Vieille Maison. La Vieille Maison is located in the regional nature park Parc du Morvan on a green route of the Michelin map: guarantee for a beautiful view. Directly behind the gite starts a walking path downhill that after about a hundred meters crosses a bridge over the lovely river the 'Dragne'. Next to the bridge is a mini beach, ideal for children to paddle or to catch small fish or crayfish. But of course you can also walk further. Famous places nearby: Chateau Chinon, Moulin Engilbert, Saint-Honore-les-Bains, Vezelay and Autun. La Vieille Maison is located in the hamlet Le Cruyot at a distance of less than 800 kilometers from The Hague. Shops and supermarkets can be found at a distance of about 10 kilometers, although a café with depot de pain (bread as long as available) and a very small grocery store can be found closer.
The Morvan has more to offer than nature, clean air, beautiful landscapes and views. In this area an important housing of the Galliers was established: Bibracte. Who knows his Asterix, knows that here also Romans have bivouaced. Various excavations of both camps can be found in the area. Roman excavations are for example in Autun, about 30 km away. Even for those who do not care about excavations this city is a must: full of culture and cozy streets, beautiful squares, nice shops, restaurants and the famous cathedral. Every Wednesday and Friday morning there is a market on the main square. Also Nevers, an hour away, is very worthwhile, just like the famous Vezelay. Vineyards, vintners and tastings can be reached within an hour (Sancerre, Giennois, Loire). The Burgundy city of Beane is an hour and a half away.
