Holiday house

Gîte Le Cochon Volant

Gîte le Cochon Volant is a large holiday farm on the highest point of the village of Fin, near the "Route du Morvan". The house has central heating, an authentic kitchen with modern facilities and a spacious dining/living room with a large fireplace. Characteristic are the one meter thick walls (cool in summers), oak beams and original tiled floors. There's plenty of space, whether it be in the courtyard or on the large garden terrace under the pergola of blue Wisteria.
Relax with a picnic overlooking the rolling hills. Rummage the numerous 'vide greniers' during the summer months in search of that perfect souvenir in local villages. Not to mention the reknown Burgundian gastronomy. And view art & culture in ancient Vézelay, one of the starting points for the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. For those who prefer a bit more action, there's canoe trips on the beautiful river 'La Cure' (also with children from 4 y.o.), horse riding, rafting and mountain biking in the Morvan National Park. Or climbing in ' The Adventure Forest'. And more water sports Water incl. sailing, windsurfing and canoeing on the numerous lakes of the Morvan. And for a day of rest, there's WiFi back at the Gîte.

We have been the proud owners of this large holiday farm for 27 years. In 1998 we celebrated a large Dutch / French wedding party. The guests ate at long, white-covered tables in the large open barn and the band played in a typical French party tent. Over the years we have had great holidays in Le Cochon with our children, family and friends, both in summer as in the beautiful cold winters.

Additional information

August '23: What a wonderful house (and garden! and surroundings!) to spend a week. The trampoline and swimming pool will be missed by the children, but the nice atmosphere, the shade and the peace and quiet on the lounger will also be missed by everyone.
Visited beautiful places in the area (Vézelay, Bazoches, and the lake with beach in Lormes).
Nice place, to come back again, and recommended. Now back home.

August '22: What a nice place to spend your holiday! Everything is there and the area is beautiful !! It's a nice family home! Greetings, B, J, J, E, S, MW and G. September '22: We had a great time in and around the flying pig. The trampoline will be missed ... We had fun days in the area, with the river at the 2 bridges as our favorite. Beautiful place! We found Vézelay and Avallon the nicest places, although we found closed doors everywhere. Every evening a fire in the garden and the BBQ on. Holidays! Who knows see you soon! J, L & L.
July '21: We really enjoyed the French countryside! Thanks! August '21: We had a very nice holiday! The trampoline was great for our 2 kids. The area is very beautiful and it is wonderfully quiet here. We enjoyed it immensely! Small villages, beautiful lakes, a large dinosaur park ... We will not soon forget this holiday. Many greetings from D, D, M & L
June '19: Excellent. Furnished with an eye for detail and equipped with the right things (in the kitchen, for example). We found the bathroom better than expected, which is often small, cramped, dirty and with lukewarm water. This was great. And the beautiful surroundings of course. The whole looks authentic, but if you look further it is completely up to date. MS Nederland July '19: Hot, hot, hot.... all records broken. Too bad because we have seen little of the area. The herb garden was very handy. The large tub: lots of water fun too! Well, we can make a whole list. We all enjoyed the house, the garden, the French life and especially each other! F, M, O, J, L & Y.
July 2018 We had a very nice week. Delicious food and seen a lot in the surrounding villages and towns. The BBQ was also very tasty, we often grilled fish. In short, a top holiday. Greetings, T, H, L & D The Netherlands August 2018 Had a great week in Le Cochon. What a rest! So slept very well. The kids (4 yrs and 7 yrs) have made good use of the trampoline and the games. Also a nice 'football field' next to the large barn. And we had very nice weather so life is soon cheerful. Visited Vézelay and Avallon in combination, great to do. Chateau de Bazoches was fun, also for the kids. The children liked Cardoland, it was just possible for those of 7 years old (we didn't really like it ourselves...). Nice swimming at the lake in Lormes. Perfect for the kids, beach and not super busy (many Dutch people because of the campsite). We were Jan van de Bakker in Tannay. The Friday market in Corbigny was fun too! And what a nice BBQ and delicious cuisine! Nothing to complain about here, but enjoyed all that Le Cochon and Burgundy have to offer. Regards, M, A, T & J The Netherlands August '18: Best house Ever!! P Family, England
July 2017. Nice house in a beautiful setting! The kids loved the tricycles, scooters completely awesome !! Often a tricycle race held. The hammock and the big tub were also favorites. During the few rainy days we played a lot of games (Monopoly in French) and the DVDs were a godsend!
Trips we liked very much were:
- Pedal boats at Lac des Settons
- Grottes d'Arcy
- Avallon
- Vézelay: shopping street and church + view
- the lake in Lormes, also a good baker in the village
- Dinopark Cardoland
Greetings, N, N, C & S, the Netherlands

August 2017. Perfect stay in your beautiful home! With 4 adults and 2 kids there was enough space and always a nice place to find - rain or shine! On the night of my 38th birthday we saw 8 shooting stars from the sun loungers in the garden. From your house we have our house hunting in the region and we drive away today with at least 1 serious 'potential'. It was sometimes fire weather and sometimes BBQ weather so we got a lot out of the wood supply. Many thanks for that!
E, E, H, S, M & C, the Netherlands

August 2017. What a beautiful week chin the Morvan! BBQ, fire bowl, fun outings, .. The kids who have amused themselves, the cows bath has done its job! ;). With regret in the heart we drive back to Antwerp, but we will cherish this week!

September 2017. We had two wonderful weeks here in Fin, which sometimes literally looked like the end of the world. Wonderfully quiet, devoid of (almost) everything. The Vézelay wine (white) tastes perfect with the crottins of the market in Clamecy. Occasionally we took the trouble to drive a bit further; Auxerre, Nevers. Both are pretty nice cities but in the end the small local villages still 'win' it. So we often 'buried' with the local wine, cheeses and beef, and then enjoyed in and around the house.
Au revoir! E & J, the Netherlands

July 2016
What a nice place and what a lovely house !!! The past two weeks we have got to know the region a little better every day. In addition, we came to the conclusion that Le Cochon Volant is in a very beautiful and ideal place. The castle of Bazoches, the market in Clamecy and of course Cardo Land: all worthwhile. And of course all the villages in the region, one even more picturesque than the other.
In the house we especially enjoyed the beautiful, authentic decor. Beautiful floors, old lamps, attention to every detail. This made us feel extra welcome in this lovingly furnished house.
What was also very nice: a complete kitchen with all kitchen appliances.
The children played endlessly outside: looking for torrents, "adventure" in the barns and the backyard. And of course swimming and splashing in the cow-pool.
Thank you very much for your hospitality! (and the welcome basket with treats on arrival).

July 2016
We always book a house for 1 week, and this is the first time that it was really too short and we still do not want to leave. We especially enjoyed the lovely terrace, the fire bowl and sitting in the evening sun.
Thank you very much for the good touring tips: we have walked, went on a canoe trip on the river Cure and went horse riding through the forest at the riding school in Montillot. Vézelay was also definitely worth a visit. But the best part was doing nothing here on the terrace and unwinding!
We will definitely recommend this house to family and friends!
Greeting, H, N, M and A, the Netherlands

August 2016
Gîte Le Cochon Volant has surprised us! We have been renting a house for years, but 'our' house has never been as tastefully decorated and finished as this one.
You can discover a new detail every day. We were lucky with a full week of sun and often just stayed in the lovely garden.
Vézelay we found very worthwhile!
Renting a boat to sail on the Nivernais is not super spectacular but still a nice trip. Swimming in the lake is also great as a change from a dip in the cow bath. So we enjoyed it very much!
Greetings, A, M, R, C, M, B, B, F and L, the Netherlands

July 25, 2015.
Super nice place here. We were very happy. For the children there was so much to do, really great! We love good food and drinks and the kitchen was fantastic. Everything is there. A lot of flies, maybe that's why so many flyfinders :). Recommended for an outing is the castle of Bazoches, literally around the corner! We enjoyed!
Thanks and au revoir.
B, M & children, the Netherlands

We fully agree with the above! What a wonderful house! What a nice place! What are all taken care of! What a good atmosphere! We have totally relaxed & enjoy! And our 22-month-old daughter enjoyed double with us! Merci beaucoup!

4 July 2015:
We had a great holiday at The Cochon Volant! Beautiful weather, lots of
sunflowers ,. Fun in the water at the river at Pierre-Perthuis, at Lormes
and canoeing. Go see 'Le Sabotier' (wooden shoe maker) in Saint-Pere.
Saturday food market in Clamecy is a recommendation. And above all a
great house with lots of room. The kids loved the 'cow-bath'!

Autumn 2014:
It was our third stay at Le Cochon this autumn. I have a tendency or not going back to our travel destinations -so many amazing places to chose from ... But Le Cochon is magic! It is not easy to put this experience into words - house is immaculate and has so many charming, very chic and rustic design moments. You feel like you are in their treasured space. What we really like is that it's settled within the very small group of other people. position.
The landscape outside is ever changing. We are either lucky or it's just a rule that you'll get glorious sunny weather there maybe with mystical foggy mornings or evenings or a bit of a windy day for a change ...
Food must be at the heart of local people there -temptations in every village shop. The best chicken (we have ever been cooked from the local butcher, unobtainable wild mushrooms, the best pralines that haunt me when back at home and of course wine ...).
My children feel this is because there are many good things to say about Le Cochon and places that surrounds it. So authentically French and a real treasure of a holiday place.
Thank you so much for letting us share this experience.

8 August 2015:
Le Cochon Volant is a wonderful home as well as holiday rental. Set in a small friendly traditional village, it is a beautiful, sympathetically restored, spacious farm house which is a perfect fusion of traditional and modern architecture. It has everything (and more) that one would need, and is superbly furnished with old and new styling throughout. As far as the house is, we fell in love with the area, so many things to do, see and explore. A week simply was just not long enough! We will definitely be going back. A huge thank you for the welcome and sharing their lovely idyllic home with us.

May 2013:
Here we are again. Back since a few days. But miss your house already. What a very cool place and what a super cool house. Unbelievable how beautiful you made it there. Very nice and very tasteful. The kids were super happy with all the toys that were there, the little cars in the barn
and the fine garden. Every evening they are tired of playing their beds and that is very nice for mom and dad.
In the end not much done because a week is short and the house too pleasant and
the sun was shining cheerfully the first days. Drink some wine and good food; ). Yep, we ended up in St. Père and Vézelay, visited a small castle and quite a few wine farms but it was just too cozy in the house to be long gone. We will definitely come back again !!!
Thanks for everything,
Peter, Emma & kids, Amsterdam
