HOLIDAY HOUSE (80 m2) in wooded rural countryside on West Coast / Botnic Gulf, 200 m. from sea, beach and marina. Ideal for hiking, cycling, (ice)fishing, water sports, cross country skiing and as a step to Lapland (6 km. from Turku-Rovaniemi main road).
The house is fully equipped but has a traditional look. For example, the well-known tile stove radiates the stored heat for a long time, and it is still possible to cook on a wood-fired stove. That's all alongside the electric wall heaters and hobs. There is always enough firewood available.
The sauna is housed in a separate building, with indoor and outdoor relaxation area.
For your children there is a sandbox with toys. Everyone can enjoy everything that grows and blossoms around the house and in the vegetable garden, greenhouse and forest. Walking pathways are set in our forest.
Exposed hiking and cycling trails are hardly available in our area, but with a good map or navigator you will find the most beautiful places. Known is a 25 km. long walk along the coast, across shelves through wetlands and marshes, and along various bird watching turrets. Other entertainment is especially easy during the holiday season in nearby towns, such as pop concerts, summer theater and theme parks. A local experience is the cruise with a recently completed schooner which is a replica of the freight sailing ship that hundreds of years ago crossed the Baltic Sea and was practically built for our front door with dozens.

We are Kristina and Arie van der Arend, of Finnish and Dutch origin. After a long stay in the Netherlands, we decided to spend our working life in Finland in 2007 and to enjoy the space and nature that this country has to offer. We exchanged our original accommodation for comfortable new construction. The old house is sometimes inhabited by family and friends from the Netherlands and we offer as a holiday home for other interested people.

The weather may be very different. While one can still enjoy beautiful autumn colors in September, the months of October and November are the darkest, with rain, snow and low light. The landscape is drowned, the marshes are impassable. The people try to forget these in working and family life. However, everything and everyone get excited in December (temporarily) again. Christmas is very important for social life. A white Christmas is guaranteed. Around that time, but sometimes far before, it starts to freeze. In particular, in January-March, temperatures of minus 25 or more are no exception. But, then, there is the absence of wind, the dry air which causes that we do not feel the cold, the light of the snow, the lengthening of the days, the ever-shining sun on a frozen land and sea. In April the snow starts to melt, and May shows how overwhelming and sudden the change from winter to summer may be. In May and June also the sun shines for many hours without exception, there are many warm and dry days, and everyone gets energy to do all kind of things and being active. The Midsummer celebrations are a highlight for many and the introduction to the holiday. These months are also our favorite. July and August are warmer and more humid, so that mosquitoes and other insects may have an unpleasant influence on daily living. The waiting is then for the first frost in September, which also will give the first autumn colors. It makes the annual cycle around, the cycle of often beautiful summers and winters, with temperatures between plus thirty and minus thirty.
The Nordic countries are beautiful because of their natural beauty, but in the summer they might be plagued by mosquitoes that can be quite difficult in wetlands and absence of wind. We have local pesticides, but who's allergic to it should take extra precautions. Moreover, sometimes nuisance of flies occurs. This is very local, but occurs throughout Finland, and can be very annoying. We were affected in 2007. We even had to help our guests to substitute accommodation and to cancel the coming of other guests. Then there was the whole of 2008 and 2009 hardly a fly. However, in 2009 a more than average amount of wasps unpleasantly influenced our life, just as in other countries. In the immediate environment an old mink/foxfarm is partly still in operation. It sometimes spreads an unpleasant smell when the weather conditions are unfavorable. We like to provide this information to avoid unpleasant surprises, especially if you have developed an allergy for one or more of the items listed. If you wish additional information about one or more of the points mentioned above or about other matters, then we will gladly offer them to you via the button 'ask a question to the landlord'.
You can reach us in many ways, but it is recommended to book as early as possible for flights or car ferries. You can then save many costs or prevent disappointments. From many airports in Europa direct flights are daily leaving to Helsinki. If you have no objection to one or more transfers there will be many more possibilities. From Helsinki you can travel further with a rental car or the excellent bus  and train links. By car you can detour via Leningrad or to make reservations for any of the following ferries: Travemünde-Helsinki (Finnlines) Rostock-Hanko/Helsinki, Stockholm-Turku/Helsinki (Tallink/Silja Line or Viking) or one of the many other possibilities. If you drive through Denmark and Sweden, you can opt for ferries (Puttgarden-Rodby and Helsingyör-Helsingborg), but also for (costly) detour in Denmark and/or the bridge Copenhagen-Malmö. And if you first want to explore Sweden you can also decide to drive around the Gulf of Bothnia to Finland. If you have questions, we will gladly help you.
Urban amenities like shopping centers, restaurants, public transport hub, airport, etc. are at some distance. The nearest city, Pori, is 25 km. removed, has 75,000 inhabitants and is known worldwide for its annual Jazz festival during the third week of July. Another town, Rauma, is at 40 km. distance and is under UNESCO protection for its full of wooden houses built center. A large funpark is located in the university and trading city of Tampere, 120 km. further inland.
The nearest supermarkets are over 5 km. in the center of Luvia. Here are the (Lutheran) church, library, athletics track, sports hall, taxi, bus stop, weekly market, etc. At 200 m. from the house is the sea, with a small sandy beach, a communal sauna, traditional rug washing, and marina. Next to the holiday house stands the in 2006 completed new home of the owners. Nearby are a number of private holiday homes and some homes with permanent residence.
In the summer season many holidaymakers stay in the vast region in their summer houses on land or on the islands off the coast and enjoying the sun, swimming, fishing, sailing and hiking. In winter they entertain themselves with snowmobiles, ijsspeedway, ice fishing and cross country skiing (also illuminated trails in the area). In spring and late summer, millions of migrating birds may be spotted on their journey to faraway places. Nearby is a large number of observation towers for bird watchers.
