Popular for hundreds of years with people of all ages

The Ore Mountains have been a popular holiday destination for hundreds of years, and the healthy mountain air attracts visitors from all parts of the globe. They flock to the area for walks and hikes, to go for a bike ride or a trip on a mountain bike but also to go skiing and cross-country skiing. In December, January and February, there is almost always enough snow for an enjoyable winter sports holiday. The most popular ski resorts are in the areas of Klinovec-Bozi Dar and Jachymov, in the western Ore Mountains. You can even go skiing across the border in Germany! This region once had active volcanoes that have led to the creation of many, still active, hot water springs that even in modern times are put to good use in the spa resorts in towns like Františkovy Lázne and Karlovy Vary. Other pretty little towns include Cheb (Eger) and Kadan, where you can re-live history in its splendid old town with lovely squares, churches and castles.
