More and more tourists are discovering Croatia as a fantastic holiday destination. One of the loveliest areas is Kvarner, in the north of the country. There are many attractions around this splendid bay: picturesque villages and plenty of sunshine, sea and beaches. Kvarner is child-friendly, clean and safe and has something for everyone. The busiest (and hottest) months are July and August, but the temperatures are often very pleasant in May, June, September and October as well. Are you looking for a holiday home in Kvarner? Micazu always has a holiday home to suit you, and you always book directly with the owner, so you know exactly where you stand.

Sunshine, sea and the beach in Kvarner, Croatia

Kvarner is a lovely destination for a sunny holiday in Croatia. The beaches of the Adriatic Coast offer plenty of opportunities for water sports and they’re great for sunbathing and swimming. Discover the beauty of the region and visit quaint villages like Dramalj and Lovran. The best-known towns in the bay are Rijeka and the sophisticated Opatija. Enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere and grab a table at one of the many bustling outdoor terraces. Just off the coast, there are several islands which are suitable for a day trip, such as Krk, Rab, Cres and Losinj. Set foot on any of these islands and you will recognise the scent of wild sage and lavender almost immediately. One of the loveliest natural areas of Croatia is found in the north: Ucka national park, which is perfect for walking. From its highest peak (Ucka-Vojak, 1,401 metres), you’ll have phenomenal views of the area.

Fun facts about Kvarner

  • Kvarner is home to one of the most beautiful castles in Croatia, Cakovec Castle. It’s also known as the Zrinski castle, named after the aristocratic Zrinski family.
  • The island of Pag is known for its prosciutto ham and tasty lamb. The secret of the exceptional taste is said to be salt deposits left on the island by the ‘Bora’ winds.
  • A boat trip on Losinj is a great way to spot dolphins in their own protected reserve.
  • Neckties are said to originate from Croatia. Wives used to give their husbands a necktie from which to draw strength when going to battle. It was also a sign of respect from the wife to the husband.
