Holiday house

Refuge en Verre

What once started as an idealistic fantasy has grown in 5 years into a large holiday home in the heart of the Ardennes. Built by a family without outside help for families who need a bit of peace and comfort.
The house has three floors (basement, ground floor and a sleeping floor) and is characterized by a feeling of openness. Partly because of this, the house bears the name 'Refuge en Verre' which means as much as; 'Glass mountain hut'.

In short, the ideal place to enjoy each other's company and to relax in times of busyness.

Count de Montaigu urged his steed to a fast gallop and under a huge clatter of iron, he threw himself into his weak opponent. The earl whirled around and stormed back, slightly slower now and more reflective, at convenient rival. But how many strokes he gave out, the only result was, and he got it still very warm. The little knight then reined his horse jumping, stopped and took a prudent, upright and defiant attitude. The Count took advantage of this moment and rushed there. The Goliath sword turned in the air and, in a steel flash, it came with a whistling sound down on the careless boy ... But the little knight had already disappeared, while the heavy weight of the count, swept along by his momentum , lost his balance and was unseated. Under a clattering noise of breaking iron, Count crashed to the ground. The little knight crossed the narrow blade of his sword light under the helmet of the dangerous excavation and cut his throat in a jerk about it. A moment later they saw the happy father on top of the dungeon accompany the new couple into the bridal chamber. The next day, very early, the father was impatient to see the happiness of the young couple, and he was waiting for them in the court of the castle. CAVES & MINES There are in the Ardennes to find many caves and mines. Especially the Han caves and the caves of Remouchaps known to the general public, but there are to be found in nine different. Part of this is open to the public, others are closed for security reasons. Clearly there are still the "caves" created by human hands. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries there was a lot of mining in the Ardennes. All the mines are now closed, but some have been given a new function. These mines are now being used to give tourists an idea of ??how it works and life was in these mines. A visit to the caves or mines in the Ardennes is something you want to miss and every cave or mine has its own specific characteristics. If you're visiting the caves care or for good footwear and warm clothing which is often warmer than 10 degrees Celsius below the ground. Caves of Han Han caves are without doubt the most famous caves of the Ardennes and perhaps of the entire Benelux. To visit the cave you have to buy a ticket in Han-sur-Lesse and from here you leaving a train or bus to the entrance of the cave. Here you can follow along a guide through the caves. The tour will take approximately 1.5 hours. The cave system of the Han Caves is one of the largest and most complex in Europe. During the tour the guide will tell you all about stalactites and stalagmites and the history of the cave. After the tour you walk back to the sunlight then you end up in an area with a large playground and a restaurant. The Slate Mine Bertrix Au Coeur de l'Ardoise like my Bertrix slate also known is an old slate mine after years of neglect is now in use as a tourist attraction. After the mine in 1977 for the last closed its doors, the following are my years with water. After it was determined the mine to build a visitor center, it took many years before all the water was pumped out. Now there is a nice educational walk due to the former slate mine. You walk a round without a guide in the cave. During the walk you'll buds at several places. Pressing here you get more information about working in a slate mine the many uses of the slate. After visiting the mine you can sit on the terrace while sipping a la Morépire. This strong blond ale brewed specially for the Au Coeur de l'Ardoise. Caves of Hotton The Hotton Caves are less known, but certainly not less beautiful. Most galleries of this cave are about forty meters underground. When you walk through the cave you get beautiful stalactites, stalagmites and curtains called against. These curtains have a beautiful color palette and are sometimes so thin that they are the little light in the cave break in a wonderful way. After a walk through the cave you lift back up pack to take another splendid panoramic walk here. My Blegny Mine Blegny is a relic of the intense mining that took place in this part of Belgium. To my not leave unused the mine was converted after the closure in 1980 to an educational center where nowadays everything comes to know about living and working in the coal mines. They are my old staff who guide you around the various shafts of the mine. A round led by the mining will take about two hours. After visiting the mine, you can still visit the nearby museum and grounds where you encounter different mining tools. On site is also available a large playground and a small restaurant. Blegny my state since 2012 on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. Caves of Remouchamps Caves of Remouchamps are located right in the center of the village. This makes it somewhat difficult to park your car. You'll visit the cave led by a guide who talks about the history of the cave and the minor flora and fauna in the cave. He does so, moreover, in French and Dutch where he smoothly switches between the two languages. After a walk of about an hour on stairs, rising and falling pathways along narrow corridors and large rooms you come to a river. Here are some boats waiting to take you through placing a particular piece of sail back to the entrance of the cave. During this perilous boat trip you have to repeatedly bend seriously not to bump your head. After the tour of the cave you can still visit a small museum of prehistory.
